dotterels. They will describe the vast history of the lagoon from the early mining days to forestry and flax harvesting.

The drive south today is through lush rainforest; it opens out briefly
into farming plains near Fox township, then continues through a range of forest
parks, past some stunning lakes, with a walk into the Lake Matheson a highlight.
There is time to take the Minnehaha short walk ,a real little gem, before
heading south with fantastic little stops like Bruce Bay, Ships Creek, and
Knights Point. We stay in Haast for 2 nights.

Day 5
HAAST - JACKSONS BAY -LAKE ELLERY
BREAKFAST | LUNCH | DINNER
After a leisurely breakfast at the local café, we explore south to
Jacksons Bay on the corner of the Haast World Heritage Area. A fish n-chip
lunch at the Craypot caravan is essential at this remote corner. We stop to
view the whitebait stands on rivers like the Waiatoto and Arawhata, with plenty
of time to view the numerous whitebait stands along the river edges. There is

the arid brown of the Mackenzie country. There are many choices to grab a lunch
at Tekapo or wait for a famous Fairlie pie, award winning piemakers. We arrive
at Geraldine early afternoon, which gives us time to visit some of the many

Frequently Asked Questions
What level of fitness do I need?
No matter what your fitness level, you can choose the activity level you feel appropriate for you, but everyone who's experienced this tour has the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors - and reviews say, they do!
What if I want to change some of the travel plans?
Sometimes our travellers like to visit relatives while on the journey. The breaks at Franz Josef and Karamea do allow for you to meet others, or if we're stopping for a walk nearby, Wayne can arrange that you spend your time differently. If you're thinking you'd like to visit someplace that's not listed in the itinerary, we can sometimes build this in. It's worth having a chat to Wayne to see what's possible.
What about cancellations or interruptions due to level changes?
We do ask for a small non-refundable deposit to begin the booking process; however, all other expenses are fully refundable if we did need to cancel. In most instances we would look to reschedule and will be in touch with vou if this arises. If in the event the level changes were imminent while we were travelling, we would look to get you quickly and safely back to a destination you could travel home from e.g., Queenstown or Christchurch.
